Owls at Last

It's taken a while but I'm finally living up to my namesake! I recreated my first ever design, my Green Owl necklace. I now have two of them up on Etsy :)

With the approach of Australian summer, which I now know I'll be experiencing this year, I've been getting all nostalgic about last summer. I always have favourite summer songs and last year it was Mr. Little Jeans cover of "The Suburbs". I've been listening to it constantly. I've also started to make a mental list of what to vote for in this years Triple J Hottest 100!
This will be my third summer for 2012! Hope it's not as sticky as the Japanese one I've just had! At the moment it's typhoon season with our first one due either tomorrow or the next day. I really hope I don't get stuck at work!

I'll soon be launching my new nostOWLgia website, built by my lovely fiancé! Keep an eye out for it :D

Totoro Hand Stamped Fabric

I finally made it to the 5 story craft store... It was amazing!!! I bought a stamp carving kit, tools and fabric ink. As soon as I got home I watched a great video on how to hand carve stamps.

Then it was time to start carving! I made a Totoro stamp and an umbrella. After that I hand stamped my fabric and then heat set it to make it nice and durable! It's now up on my Etsy store :)
I've spent the rest of the night making lists and sketching out rough ideas for more hand carved stamps.

Otsukaya

On Sunday night my partner and I went to Sustailight Cafe in Sakae to see our friend Masa's dj set. It was an amazing night! Really cruisy house music and Sustailight had amazing food and drinks, including the most delicious dried fruit ice tea!! It's a really relaxed atmosphere with vintage buttons and matryoshka on the wall and surfboards hanging from the roof. It has a big focus on living sustainably, something I feel I need to endeavour to do more!

My friend Ami (who owns her own zakka store, Relier) and I got talking about craft stores. As I am unable to read, write or speak Japanese I've had a hard time finding craft stores. A small one in Sakae called Yuzawaya and the small chain Craft Heart Tokai. Craft Heart Tokai has an excellent members card that offers discounts and earns points that can be taken off purchases. Anyway! Ami told me about Otsukaya in Kurumamichi. It's apparently a huge craft store... 5 floors! I'm on my way there right now, very excited! Fingers crossed I'll find some Totoro fabric!

Edit: It's closed on Thursdays :( So I didn't find anything! Maybe next week end :D
